Look at the picture below, then read its caption.

A park scene with a tree, a sun, and two children playing with a ball

Caption: Two children play with a ball in the park.

What does the caption tell you?

What can you see in the picture that the caption does not say?

Does the picture help you understand the caption better? Why?

This is a picture-and-text task, so answers will vary. Look for an answer that uses the caption’s words, and a detail from the picture the caption leaves out, such as the sun, the tree, or the ball.

Sample answers:

What does the caption tell you? Two children are playing with a ball in the park.

What can you see in the picture that the caption does not say? There is a sunny day and a big tree.

Does the picture help you understand the caption better? Why? Yes, because it shows what the park and the children look like.
