A Few Commonly Asked Questions
Answers to the questions parents ask most. If something isn’t covered here, get in touch — we’re happy to talk it through.
What ages do you work with?
Academic classes are for children ages 3–14. Workshops are also offered for ages 3–14, with select programmes such as theatre open to children up to age 18.
What’s the right age to start?
Children can begin as early as age 3 with our Early Learning programme, which focuses on phonetics, writing readiness, number sense, and classroom habits. There’s no “too early” — many of the skills we work on at this stage are the ones children struggle with later if they aren’t built early.
Do you follow a specific school board or syllabus?
Classes are aligned with your child’s own school syllabus, whichever board they follow. We work with what the child is being taught in school, reinforce it, and fill in gaps where needed.
Are classes one-on-one or in groups?
Both. Classes are conducted in small groups or one-on-one, depending on the child’s needs and current enrolment. Group sizes are kept small so that each child receives close attention.
How do online classes work?
Online classes follow the same curriculum and materials as in-person sessions. Lessons use visual aids, slides, and interactive explanations to keep sessions focused and effective. Online is available as a supplement to in-person learning, or as a fully standalone option.
How often are classes held?
Frequency depends on the child’s needs and what the parent is looking for. Some children attend multiple sessions a week; others attend fewer. This is discussed during the initial conversation and can be adjusted over time.
Can I book a trial class?
Yes. A trial session can be arranged so you and your child can see how classes work before committing. Get in touch to set one up.
How is my child’s progress tracked?
Progress is monitored continuously through classwork, assignments, and regular observation. Parents are kept informed and can discuss their child’s development at any time — there’s no need to wait for a formal review.
Do you work with children who have learning difficulties?
Firefly Ed works with children who learn at different paces, including those who need more time or a different approach to grasp concepts. If a child’s needs go beyond what we can support — such as cases requiring clinical or specialist intervention — we’ll be upfront about that and can help point you in the right direction.
What about fees?
Fees are discussed privately based on the child’s age, the format (in-person or online), and the number of sessions. Reach out and we’ll walk you through it.
