Prerna
Prerna is an educator with over 15 years of classroom teaching experience, working with children ages 3 to 17. She spent most of her career at La Martiniere Girls’ College (LMGC), where she taught across age groups and was closely involved in school events, performances, and extracurricular programmes.
She left her full-time school role to build something more focused — a practice where she could work closely with children and families without the constraints of a large school system. That became Firefly Ed.
Firefly Ed started with workshops: creative, performance-based programmes designed to give children something beyond routine classroom activities. Over time, it grew into a structured learning practice where academic teaching forms the core, supported by periodic workshops and hands-on activities.
Today, private academic classes are central to Firefly Ed. But the original instinct — that children learn best when they feel engaged, not pressured — still shapes everything about how the practice runs.
How She Teaches
Prerna’s teaching is shaped by how each child thinks, communicates, and engages — not just what the syllabus requires. She pays close attention to behaviour, expression, and confidence alongside academics, and adjusts her approach based on what each child needs.
Her relationships with children are built on trust and consistency. She communicates clearly, sets expectations calmly, and creates a space where children feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
In-person classes are conducted in a home-based setting — calm, familiar, and well-supervised. For younger children, this helps them settle into learning without the pressure of a formal classroom. For older students, it provides focus without rigidity. Online classes follow the same approach and materials.
I want every child who comes here to feel like this is their space — somewhere they’re taken seriously, supported properly, and actually happy to show up.
A Family of Educators
Firefly Ed is supported by Prerna’s mother, a senior educator with more than 40 years of teaching experience across ages 3–18. She retired as Head of Department (Junior School) at LMGC, and now actively works with children in Firefly Ed’s classes and workshops.
Between them, they bring over 55 years of combined classroom experience — and a shared belief that good teaching starts with understanding the child in front of you.
